The Benefits of Online Therapy/Counseling

The journey of healing can be an unfolding process. Often it’s beneficial to have a supportive guide along the way to assist you in finding healing within.

I provide online counseling for adults or teens (13 and older) who reside anywhere within the state of California. I work with people facing challenges like these:

Online counseling is also called online therapy, web therapy, e-therapy, or teletherapy. It can be a convenient way to meet with a therapist without the worry of travel time or dealing with traffic. Sometimes people may choose online counseling because of an illness or disability that necessitates receiving services at their own home, or because it’s difficult to access transportation to a therapy office nearby.

One advantage of online counseling is the ability to choose from a wide range of providers based on your unique support needs, even outside of your immediate geographical area. Although I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I am able to offer online counseling services to clients who are California residents—regardless of whether you live in the Fresno/Bakersfield area, San Diego, or Crescent City.

How Does Online Therapy/Counseling Work?

Clinical research has shown that online counseling is just as effective as in-person therapy for many kinds of mental health challenges. To use online counseling, all you need is a device that can connect to the Internet (such as a smartphone, tablet, or computer) and a location where you can talk in private.

As with office-based mental health services, the online therapy/counseling I provide has a foundation of established psychological practices. My primary training and experience is in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) with an eye toward solution-focused interventions, allowing you to begin quickly moving toward the goals that are important to you.

I work from a culturally sensitive and strengths-based perspective, incorporating approaches such as Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, and Expressive Arts Therapy when appropriate.

Is Online Therapy Right for You?

Each person has specific mental health needs when they first contact a counselor or therapist. Together, we will evaluate your current needs and decide whether online counseling is the best means of support at this time.
